Marshals catch robbery suspect who dove into river

PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh man wanted for two robberies and an assault has been jailed after a U.S. Marshals' task force chased him down - but not before he tried to get away by diving into the Allegheny River.

The Marshals Service Western Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force says 30-year-old Calvin Brundidge was wanted by city police when they received information he was near PNC Park on Monday.

When officers spotted Brundidge about 2:10 p.m. he ignored orders to stop and ran across the Roberto Clemente Bridge, leapt down onto the Tenth Street bypass and then ran along a riverside trail before jumping into the water.

Brundidge was captured by the task force members with the help of Pittsburgh's River Rescue crews.

Details of the arrest warrants weren't immediately available. Brundidge was jailed pending a preliminary hearing June 21.
