Changes coming to Harrisburg School District

Posted: Updated:
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

The Harrisburg School District is making some big changes starting this school year.

The district is going to expand its College and Career Academy program at the high school. It's a state mandate that is supposed to prepare teens for careers after high school.

Students will choose from four areas: science, technology, engineering and math; health and live sciences; communications, performing arts and media; or business.

The district is also bringing cyber classrooms into the elementary and middle schools.

"We have to meet the kids where they are and that's the way they communicate," superintendent Dr. Sybil Knight-Burney said, "so it just makes sense that we would try to do a better job of being able to reach them and teach them."

The district is also moving administrative offices from Front Street to the Lincoln School.
