YORK, Pa. (WHTM) - Police have arrested the suspect of an early morning car chase where police fired several shots and the suspect crashed his vehicle into a building.

York Area Regional Police responded to a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of East Main Street in Dallastown shortly after midnight for a report of a male breaking into an apartment and dragging a female from the apartment against her will.

The caller told dispatchers the male put the female in his truck and fled the area.

The male has been identified as 33-year-old Douglas Newman of New Oxford. He allegedly fled the scene, driving to the Royal Farms convenience store on South Queen Street in York Township where he was spotted by police.

The female jumped from the truck, running into the store, while Newman got in the truck and intentionally rammed his truck into a police car with an officer inside.

When Newman reversed the truck, the officer says he got out of his car, trying to get Newman out of his vehicle but Newman allegedly drove toward the officer, so the officer filed a couple rounds at Newman but did not hit him.

Police said Newman then fled to the Arlington Plaza shopping center and crashed into the Peaceful Pet Passage business, he suffered minor injuries from that crash.

The police officer suffered minor injuries from the crash at the convenience store.

Both the officer and Newman were taken to the hospital for treatment and released with minor injuries.

Newman is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, resisting arrest, reckless driving, burglary, criminal trespassing, terroristic threats with intent to terrorize another and kidnapping to inflict injury/terror.
