Commission to provide industry recommendations to government on how convergence can improve efficiency, services and capabilities

WASHINGTON, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The TechAmerica Foundation is launching a Technology Convergence Commission to bring technology leaders together to make recommendations to the U.S. Administration on the convergence of social, mobile, analytics and cloud (SMAC) technologies and their ability to improve government efficiency, services and capabilities while driving innovation and the economy. This commission will be co-chaired by Kay Kapoor, president of AT&T Government Solutions, and David Zolet, executive vice president and general manager of Computer Sciences Corporation's North American Public Sector.

"The convergence of information and communication technologies has been one of the most noticeable and innovative trends in the IT sector over the past few years and will continue to be a major strategic enabler of business, program and mission outcomes in the near future," said Kapoor. "It is important the federal government be positioned to take advantage of this convergence and leverage best practices in the private sector to achieve successful outcomes."

"As the federal government looks to the private sector to help drive innovation, we in industry need to provide a clear roadmap for adoption and the nexus on how these technology drivers combined can improve an agency's mission in times of tight budgets," added Zolet.

The commission has 36 openings for commissioners to work on any of the four workstreams: social media, mobile, analytics and cloud. Each commissioner also will appoint a deputy from their company, who will be their project lead. Commissioners need to be prepared to commit both financial support to underwrite the commission's efforts and thought leadership toward the commission's recommendations and final report. Interested candidates have until July 25 to apply at: http://www.techamericafoundation.org/technology-convergence.

The Commission will hold its inaugural meeting on September 3 with the White House Office of Science and Technology where it will lay out its structure and areas of coverage.
