Officials say a body found in Perry County in May is that of a male that died of a gunshot wound but the details about the wound are unclear. "Because it is an ongoing investigation we can not discuss what evidence we found," Robert Hicks, Trooper PSP.
The body was discovered on May 27 in the area of State Game Lands #170 in Rye Township, Perry County.
An investigation by a forensic anthropologist determined the victim was a white male, between 45 and 70-years-old and approximately 5'11'' - 6'6''.
But finding out any additional information is going to take time. "Until we can identify the body it is really going to be hard to do anything. Once we can identify the body then we can back track the investigation and go from there," said Hicks.
The anthropologist says the unidentified man died of a gunshot wound and could have been at that location for nine to 14 months, which dates back to the summer of 2013.
The coroner says they will use DNA to identify the man, which could take 3 to 6 months.
Officials are continuing to investigate this death, anyone with information is asked to call the Newport State Police station. The number is 717-567-3110.
