Annapolis, Maryland may be home to the US Naval Academy, but it is also very family friendly. It's only 2 hours away and a nice family staycation.
In the harbor downtown, visitors will find boating, kayaking, standup paddle boarding, water taxi's, cruises and of course sailboats galore. "Annapolis is a wonderful beautiful city that got it's start in the 1600's when Puritans came over seeking religious freedom," said Susan Steckman of the Annapolis Visitors Bureau.
Boats like to strut their stuff in Ego Alley in the harbor as visitors watch from the city dock and just a stones throw away, Main Street is great for shopping and dining.
The Discover Annapolis Trolley Tour takes you off the beaten path to showcase a different side of Annapolis. The hour long ride highlights history and ends with the most historic place of all. Built in 1772, the Maryland State House is the first and oldest Capitol Building in country. "All together, we have about 1700 buildings in Annapolis 100 years old or more," said Lance Lancaster of Discover Annapolis Trolley Tour.
The perfect way to end the day is with a sunset cruise on the Woodwind II. Designed after a 1930's era yacht, it's a 74 foot schooner with Captain Andy at the wheel. "It's made from cedar from Washington State. The trim around the deck is Mahogany with at least 7 coats of varnish on it. Decks are Douglas Fir," said Captain Andy Barton.
The 2 hour cruise is relaxing and invigorating. You can sail the high seas in Annapolis or in this case the Severn River and have a maritime family staycation.
