Family Remembers Teen Killed in Amherst Co. Motorcycle Crash

Lynchburg, VA - The sister of an Amherst County teen who was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday is still reeling from the loss.

18-year-old Zachary Trent and 19-year-old William Clements crashed on Route 29 near Dairy Lane after police say the two were speeding away from them.

Trent, who was the passenger, later died at Lynchburg General.

Gabrielle Trent says she had a close relationship with her brother. She says the two lost their mother a little over a year ago which they both took very hard. She never thought she would have to prepare for another funeral so soon.

“I just think he is going to pull up anytime now and walk in the door" said Gabrielle Trent.

Gabrielle Trent says she is still in disbelief over the loss of her brother, 18-year-old Zachary Trent.

"Since my mother died, I took care of him" said Trent.

Zach Trent was the passenger on a motorcycle Sunday evening, driven by 19-year-old William Clements.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office says Clements led officers on a chase that evening, after he refused to pull over for speeding. He then crashed on Route 29.

"I just heard William was in accident on a street bike and I was like 'oh my gosh Zachary rides with him... I knew I just knew he was" said Trent.

EMS crews took both teens to Lynchburg General where Trent later died. "It doesn't seem real to me... but I know it is" said Trent.

The Sheriff's office says the crash is still under investigation and they are working with the Commonwealth's attorney to decide what charges Clements will face.

However, Gabbie Trent says she doesn't hold any ill will against her brother's best friend.

"I know that it was an accident and that he didn't mean to. So I don't hold a grudge against him or his family."

She says she will always remember her brother for his adventurous spirt. "He wspiritgood person. He would've done anything for anybody"

William Clements is still at Lynchburg General in stable condition. The Trent family has set up a Go Fund Me page to help with funeral expenses.
