SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -
The new Sheetz on East King Street in Shippensburg has been given the go-ahead by the Pa. Liquor Control Board to sell beer. It would be the first convenience store in the area to do so.
The PLCB announced the decision on Wednesday. Up to two six-packs would be allowed per sale.
The store, located right next to an older Sheetz, is set to open Thursday.
However, beer lovers should not expect to buy the bottles just yet. The PLCB still needs to inspect the store and there could technically be an appeal.
Some in the area support the change and others in the college town are against giving people another place to purchase alcohol.
There's no word when the store will actually start selling beer.
Representatives from Sheetz were not available for comment Wednesday evening.
