Danville, VA- Police there say they believe a gas line at Abercrombie Oil was intentionally cut, in an attempt to steal copper pipe, causing Thursday morning’s propane leak.
Officials also say the suspect may have gotten an injury similar to frostbite in the process. Abercrombie Oil says about 2,000 gallons of propane leaked as a result of the gas line cut. The leak was reported after someone on the Riverwalk Trail nearby smelled natural gas.
Three engines and a ladder truck responded, spraying down the leak site and pulling emergency shut off valves. If you have any information on the incident, call the Danville Police Department.
Danville, VA - Danville Police say a major propane leak crews responded to Thursday morning is now under control.
Three engines and a ladder truck were called to Abercrombie Oil on River Street. According to officials, they found a large vapor cloud of propane.
Crews used a ladder truck and other hoses to spray down the leak site. Then, they moved into the area to pull the emergency shut off valves.
Police shut down River Street and the nearby trail for a little more than two hours while crews were on the scene.
The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the leak.
