10-month-old takes on Cystic Fibrosis and keeps smiling

Posted: Updated:
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -  Nothing can be more heartbreaking than seeing a child have to deal with a life-threatening illness. And it's amazing when those children seem to shrug off all the hardships with smiles.

That is the case with 10-month-old Autumn Scott of Mechanicsburg. She's suffering from Cystic Fibrosis, an illness that results in chronic respiratory infections and can make it difficult for people to digest their food and grow as they should.

An estimated 30,000 children and adults are dealing with Cystic Fibrosis in the United States, according to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's website.

Autumn's mom, Kristin Scott, is hoping to raise awareness about it in hopes of eventually finding a cure.

The little girl has had a rough go of it, but still seems like as happy as any other 10-month-old.

"She's always in and out of the hospital and she already has had surgery for her tubes," said Kristin. "It's helped her gain a little weight but the last month she did lose weight again."

"She still comes out smiling, even the day she had her surgery," said Jenice Luna, who helps Kristin care for Autumn. "We had blood all over us, crying because we're scared. She's all laughing."

Kristin says they used to have to go to Hershey every week to see a specialist. Now it's once a month.
