LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Reading truck driver and his passenger sustained serious and life-threatening injuries in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning on Route 222 in Lancaster County.

Manheim Township police said 36-year-old Michael Hasselhan was approaching slow traffic in the southbound lanes between Eden Road and Hunsecker Road and struck the rear of a vehicle operated by James Armstrong of Mohnton.

Hasselhan's tractor-trailer then rolled onto its side and slid into another tractor-trailer operated by 58-year-old Jeffrey Clark of Vermont, police said.

Hasselhan and his passenger were trapped and had to be rescued by firefighters. The passenger, who was not immediately identified, was transported by helicopter to Lancaster General Hospital.

The crash at 7:43 a.m. closed the southbound lanes until the afternoon.

Manheim Township police are still investigating and ask any witnesses to call them at 717-569-6401.
