Midstate motocross kids qualify for national competition

Posted: Updated:

On a warm summer night, three Midstate families gather at a motocross racetrack in Middletown.

While nights at the racetrack are a normal part of their routine, this night, the practice is different. The riders are focused and the families are preparing to travel to Hurricane Mills, Tennessee.

Nine-year-old Jay Covert Jr., 12-year-old Chase Yentzer, 9-year-old Ryan Canaguier and 6-year-old Will Canaguier have beaten out 25,000 other motocross racers across the country, earning a spot at the 2014 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at the Loretta Lynn Ranch.

These Midstate boys will join 1,200 of the best motocross riders at the ranch, each trying to beat the 41 other riders in their age groups to earn a coveted title.

The races start Tuesday and end Saturday. To track the boys' progress, click here.
