Vandalized soup kitchen won't reopen till Wednesday

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -

A Harrisburg soup kitchen damaged by vandals will not reopen today as initially expected.

The St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen will reopen Wednesday, ABC 27 News has learned, because there's still cleanup to do.

Vandals broke into the soup kitchen on Zarker Street Monday night and emptied two fire extinguishers.

A lot of the food and all the pots, pans and utensils had to be thrown out.

Since then, someone who wants to remain anonymous gave the soup kitchen an all-expense paid shopping spree at the Restaurant Store near Capital City Mall.

The soup kitchen is hoping to install a security system.
