Outrage over road resurfacing project

Posted: Updated:
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) -  People in one Cumberland County neighborhood are outraged over a road resurfacing project.

This week, crews tarred and chipped Spring Circle and the rest the Monroe Township neighborhood.  But it wasn't what homeowners were expecting.

They said the new surface has damaged their cars and children cannot safely ride their bikes on it.

"We have to change shoes as we go into the house," Beth Lengel said. "We have a brand new driveway. It's sprayed with tar. It goes into the garage, it hangs on our cars...it's everywhere."

Township officials said the area was due for repairs and this was the only way to get it done.

"It's an unfortunate thing," Supervisor Bill Castle said. "It will smooth out and...a week or two down the road...they will say, 'you know this isn't bad at all."

The township said the roads will be swept in the coming days.  Neighbors started a petition with nearly 100 signatures against the recent work.
