Trial slated in western Pennsylvania hit-run death

Posted: Updated:

WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A western Pennsylvania man has been ordered to stand trial on vehicular homicide and other charges in a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian last month.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (http://bit.ly/YdK153 ) reports that 42-year-old Robert Lee Myers Jr. of Ellsworth wept several times during testimony at Wednesday's preliminary hearing in Washington County.

Myers is charged with homicide by vehicle and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol as well as leaving the scene, aggravated assault by vehicle and other counts.

State police allege that Myers was driving a pickup truck Aug. 15 when he struck 29-year-old Brittany Marie Chapman of Scenery Hill as she walked home from a local tavern. Police allege that he fled, and officials say Chapman was pronounced dead that evening.
