Ali Lanyon

Ali Lanyon is the co-anchor of abc27 Daybreak from 4:30-7 a.m.

Ali joined abc27 in 2002 as a reporter. Since then, she has covered stories in every corner of the Midstate.

Throughout her career she has reported on everything from murder trials and tornado touchdowns to the Dillsburg Pickle Drop on New Year’s Eve. She has also covered major political events including a one-on-one interview with Vice President Mike Pence leading up to the 2020 election. She has covered several Presidential campaigns, Hillary Clinton’s 2008 primary victory in Pa. and the defeat of Senator Arlen Specter.

Ali has traveled to tell some of her most memorable stories. She reported from Shanksville, Pa. on the anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, went to Washington, D.C. to cover the death of President Ronald Reagan, and flew to New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina to follow local volunteer efforts.

She has also traveled to Hollywood twice to take viewers behind the scenes of the hit show “Dancing with the Stars.”

Ali has earned four regional Emmy awards since joining abc27. Her first two awards were for outstanding reporting in the Health and Science field. In 2010 she was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding On-Camera Reporter in the Features and Human Interest category. She received the same award for outstanding feature reporter in 2022. She has also been honored numerous times by the Associated Press.

Ali was honored to be named Harrisburg Magazine’s “Simply the Best – Reader’s Choice” for television news anchor in 2017. She earned the title for “Local TV Personality” again in 2018. In 2019, readers voted her “Simply the Best Local TV Personality.” She also was honored as “Simply the Best Local TV Personality” by readers of Harrisburg Magazine in 2020 and 2022. In 2021, Ali was again honored as “Reader’s Choice” for Local Television Personality.

In 2009, Ali was honored by the Dauphin County Victim Witness Assistance Program as the Media Advocate of the Year. She also received recognition from the U.S. Marshal Service for her work to educate the public about an initiative called Operation Safe Surrender.

In 2010, Ali started a recurring segment called “Midstate Mysteries,” which examines cold cases across central Pennsylvania. The series has twice been nominated for a Mid-Atlantic Regional Emmy for crime reporting.

Ali is passionate about crime and court reporting and has appeared twice on the Investigation Discovery channel discussing local cases.

In 2015, Ali created the “Mommy Minute” on Daybreak, a weekly segment aimed at discussing issues important to local parents.

Ali created the “What’s Going Around” segment in 2017, informing parents of the illnesses that are affecting children across the Midstate. The segment airs every Thursday morning on Daybreak.

Ali grew up in Royersford, PA. She attended Hofstra University on Long Island where she graduated summa cum laude and played Division I field hockey.

Ali is the proud mom to Alexander and Emerson and you’ll often find her on the sidelines at local swim meets and lacrosse games.
