Avery joined abc27 as a digital multimedia journalist in September 2020 after graduating from Northwestern University.
She grew up in Mechanicsburg, taking frequent day trips to shop in Lititz or catch performances at the Fulton Theatre. Now she is excited to return to the area to cover beautiful Lancaster County.
While attending Northwestern, Avery was involved in the university’s TV station, Northwestern News Network, and served as news director for their radio station, WNUR. She has also held internships at Chicago-based documentary production company Small Forces and local Pennsylvania radio station WITF.
Avery’s reporting has been recognized regionally and nationally with Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence Awards, and she received an award in the Storyfest 2020 competition for her reporting on sea level rise. Avery especially enjoys covering environmental stories.
If you ever pass Avery driving to Lancaster, she’ll probably be jamming along with her music — and she might just be singing nonsense syllables because her college a cappella days are not far behind her. Besides listening to music, Avery enjoys reading books, taking short hikes and spending time with her three cats.
When you see Avery around Lancaster, she’d love to hear your book and music recommendations…and your news tips!
