Jared Phillips joined abc27 as a Sports Anchor/Reporter in July 2022.
Jared started his career in Springfield, IL, working for Channel1450.com as a sports reporter covering local high school sports in Central IL. His two and a half years there opened his eyes to the passion small communities have for local sports, and his time there included a trip to Omaha for the College World Series.
From Springfield, Jared moved to Albany, New York to break back into television as a sports reporter with WTEN. He had the opportunity to cover Capital Region sports for two years, with one of the biggest highlights traveling to Atlantic City to cover the MAAC basketball tournament in 2022.
Originally from Coatesville, PA, Jared received a degree in broadcast journalism from Temple University in Philadelphia in 2017. While working on student broadcasts for Temple, Jared had the chance to cover College GameDay between Temple and Notre Dame, the AAC basketball tournament in Orlando, and the NFL Draft.
Outside of covering sports, Jared spends his free time listening to and discovering new music, exploring the best spots to grab a bite and a drink around the city, and will never turn down some pickup hoops. He is happy to chat if you see him out at any local sporting events!
