A three-term Democratic congressman from northeastern Pennsylvania appears close to winning re-election, according to a recent poll.

The poll by Susquehanna Polling and Research for ABC27 News found U.S. Rep Matt Cartwright has a 17-point lead over Republican challenger John Chrin, 57-40 percent.

The two are running for Pennsylvania’s 8th congressional district which includes Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, and Wayne counties.

The telephone survey of 446 likely voters was conducted Oct. 28-29 and has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.6 percentage points.
