Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics: Celiac Awareness Month

Good Day PA

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease that is growing in prevalence.  It’s estimated that 1 in every 133 people have celiac disease, but 80 to 90% don’t know it.

Signs of celiac disease include bloating, fatigue, anemia (low blood count), and sometimes heartburn or diarrhea.  These symptoms occur from damage that gluten causes when it is eaten.

Moving to a gluten-free diet is the only way around celiac disease. Not all gluten is obvious, so today we’re checking into seven foods that you may not have realized have gluten.
