CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — A crash on Interstate 81 south in Cumberland County on Thursday, Feb. 9, killed an 18-year-old driver according to Pennsylvania State Police.

According to 511PA.com and state police, the crash was near Exit 61 for PA 944 – Wertzville Road at around 4:02 p.m.

A report from state police says 18-year-old Jeffrey Suter from Enola made an unsafe lane change and drove off the right side of the road.

Suter was pronounced dead on the scene and was not transported to the hospital, police say.

Bishop McDevitt High School released a statement Friday saying Suter was set to graduate in the spring and was a member of the soccer team.

“It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share the passing of senior class member, Jeffrey Suter. Jeff was a member of the boys soccer team and was committed to play at Drew University in the fall. He lit up our classrooms, hallways and soccer field. We will miss his kind heart and bright smile. We send our deepest sympathy to the Suter family, his friends, classmates and teammates. Please join us in lifting up his loved ones in prayer during this difficult time. Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May the soul of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen. Rest in Peace, Jeffrey Suter, Class of 2023 ✝️📿
