HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Harrisburg police officers were on the scene of a multi-vehicle crash early Thursday morning in the area of North 17 and Regina Streets.

Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles that appeared to have collided at the intersection. The initial investigation has led officers to believe that one vehicle was traveling north on 17th Street while the other was traveling east on Regina Street prior to the crash.

According to the report, the collision caused the vehicle traveling north on 17th Street to roll onto its side. One of the passengers was pronounced dead and the coroner was called to the scene.

On Thursday the Dauphin County Coroner’s office identified the victim as 67-year old Tyrone Thompson. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, July 26.

All of the occupants of the vehicle traveling east on Regina Street got out of the vehicle and fled the scene prior to the police arrival.

Emergency dispatch says the call came in around 2:30 a.m. Hours later, at 6:40 a.m., police still had the road blocked off. The Harrisburg Bureau of Police Traffic Safety Unit responded to the scene and is currently investigating the incident.
