Hersheypark has unveiled plans for a 23-acre development called Chocolatetown and its tallest, longest and fastest roller coaster.

Chocolatetown, a $150 million investment set to open in 2020, will create a passageway between Chocolate World and the amusement park.

A restaurant and bar with a second story patio and signature desserts, a confectionary kitchen where guests can watch candy makers at work, and an ice cream parlor with exclusive creations will all remain open year-round.

A 10,000-square-foot merchandise store will sell clothing, toys, souvenirs, and more.

One of Hersheypark’s most historic rides, the carousel, will get a new home in Chocolatetown. The new area will also feature improved entrance gates, the Kisses Fountain, boutique shopping, and Hersheypark’s 15th roller coaster.

Hersheypark did not release a name or details of the new roller coaster but promised it would be its  “tallest, longest, fastest, and sweetest” coaster ever.

ABC27 News has obtained a form submitted to the Federal Aviation Administration for the mystery attraction. The park needed FAA approval because the coaster will be 220 feet tall, and it must have flashing red lights because it is less than five miles from Harrisburg International Airport.

Work on the new coaster will begin in January. It is expected to be completed in May 2020. 

The last big roller coaster at the amusement park was Skyrush in 2012.
