LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) — The Lancaster Bureau of Police is investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Dec. 11, around 8 p.m.
Police officers were dispatched to the 300 block of E. Liberty Street for the reported shooting. They located two adult victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the area of N. Plum Street and Ice Avenue, according to Lancaster Police.
The victims were both taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries, which did not appear to be life-threatening, police said.
Witnesses told police that a suspect had fled the area on foot, and officers set up a perimeter to contain the suspect, Lancaster Bureau of Police Chief Richard Mendez said in an update on Tuesday morning.
Police located the suspect suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in an alley in the 400 block of Ice Avenue, they said. That person was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and on Tuesday, Mendez said he had died from his injury. The suspect was pronounced deceased on Monday afternoon, Mendez reported.
Both victims the suspect targeted appeared to be random targets of opportunity and had no prior connection to the suspect or to each other, Mendez said.
On the evening of Dec. 11, police said they had blocked off several streets for the investigation. On Monday morning, they said all blocked roadways had been reopened. Police also said on Monday morning that there was no increased danger to the public from this incident.
Officers also investigated a suspicious death in Lancaster on Monday morning around 8:30 a.m. in which a deceased woman had sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Mendez said that investigators learned that the woman had a connection to the suspect in the Sunday shooting.
Her death is being investigated as a homicide, Mendez said.
Mendez noted that there is no increased level of danger to the public related to those incidents at this time.
