LEBANON COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Norfolk Southern Police reported to a fatal crash at the crossing on North Railroad Street between Broad and Spruce Streets on Tuesday. The Lebanon County Coroner’s Office said that 63-year-old Kimberly Gingrich of Palmyra was killed in the accident. The exact manner and cause of death are still under investigation.

According to PennDOT Safety Officer Fritzi Schreffler, the crash involved a vehicle and a train. The coroner was called to report to the scene of the single fatality.

Police officers were on the scene and conducting an investigation. The department, according to Schreffler, shared with PennDOT’s Traffic Management Center that the gates for the railroad crossing were operational at the time of the incident.

One worker told abc27 about the sudden crash.

“I was loading up a truck right as I was loading,” David Traveny said. “I heard a loud bang. You could hear the brakes slam and screech and stop. Before we could do anything else police and ambulances were already on the scene right away.”
