After receiving medical care, the child’s body revealed bruises across his body. The medical staff determined the location of the bruises was consistent with abuse. The child was one of five children between the ages six and 15 that were adopted by the couple.

Officials say, after further investigation, they found the couple abused and neglected all of the children, though the 11-year-old received the most abuse, according to the children’s statements with the forensic interviewers.

“Child abusers exhibit the utmost evil actions. For years, the Duncan children lived helplessly and at the mercy — or lack thereof — of the Defendants. The level of abuse, torture, and emotional neglect the Defendants inflicted is beyond compression,” District Attorney Pie Hess Graf said.

A judge sentenced Stephanie to 17 to 47 years. Plus, she will not be allowed contact with any children for the full 47 years. Robert Duncan was sentenced to between six and 30 years in prison back in October.

When the prosecution team asked the oldest children for input on their adopted parents’ consequences, both we vocal and adamant. They requested years in jail and wanted the two to receive different sentences, asking fo the most jail time possible for Stephanie.
