Officers arrived at the 300 block of East Main Street around 10 a.m. for a welfare check. That’s when police discovered 65-year-old Nora Sanchez dead inside the residence.

According to a report released on Friday, Sept. 10, An autopsy performed by the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office on Sept. 2 determined Sanchez died by strangulation with evidence of sexual assault.

In this quiet borough, this really has some neighbors on edge.

“Some people that feel really threatened by this worry that this could be a stalker and all of that,” Nick Schafer, New Holland resident, said.

One neighbor told abc27 she’s afraid of being home alone since the incident and didn’t want to go on camera, fearing she might be targeted next. Investigators share their concerns asking everyone to stay vigilant until an arrest is made. People here hope this is an isolated incident, even if it’s unusual.

“New Holland is a pretty good community and it’s pretty law-abiding. We’ve got our criminals. We’ve got our bad actors but for the most part, we’ve got a good group of citizens,” Schafer added.

The Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office and the New Holland Police Department are urging anyone who has information that could help them catch the suspect to come forward and call at 717-354-4647. No arrests have been made as of Sept. 10.

This is a developing story. abc27 will provide updates as they become available.
