Heavy flash flooding closed roads and caused damage in western Schuylkill County.

The Swatara Creek was over its banks in Tremont and Pine Grove on Monday morning.

Video from Tremont showed water as high as car bumpers racing through a street and reaching porches.

Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency said high wheel vehicles from local fire stations were being used to move stranded residents to safety.

Stranded residents were moved to shelters at fire stations and the Pine Grove High School.

Closed roadways included Route 125 and Route 443 in Pine Grove

The emergency management agency urged people to avoid travel. They said a number of people attempted to drive through flooded roadways, become stranded, and had to be rescued.

There were also numerous reports of homes with flooded basements.
