Family members say the 9-year-old accidentally shot Sunday afternoon in Lancaster, remains in critical condition.
Police say the boy was playing with sidewalk chalk outside of a home on the 600-block of East Madison Street during a family gathering when he was shot in the back. He was taken to the hospital for surgery where he remains in critical condition.
Investigators say one of the boy’s family members was “test firing” a handgun in the basement when it discharged. Police say the bullet went through a door and hit the boy in his back.
The district attorney is reviewing the case. Police say all family members have cooperated and the handgun has been recovered.
