CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Firefighters sign up for this. They answer the call no matter the conditions. Today that meant fighting a fire and the weather.

Triple Nickle Auto Parts took a big hit Friday afternoon.

All that remains is a lot of mangled metal and charred debris.

The fire call came in just after 2 p.m. Everyone in the area knew what was going on.

The shop was filled with obstacles and hazardous materials.

“We did have a couple propane tanks that exploded,” said Lt. Matthew Bigler of Franklin Fire Company, “No one was around and got hurt with that and had antifreeze and oil and stuff like that. When you have a store that like you will encounter that.”

It took nearly two hours to get the fire under control. Smoke, flames, the heat, and humidity created some major challenges.

“It’s a whole different level. Guys that are fit, everybody takes a beating. It takes a lot out of you and with 100 pounds of gear and 100-degree weather, it is unbearable,” Bigler said.

Crews rotated every 30 minutes and stayed hydrated.

The business was a total loss, but no one was killed.

A few firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion, but there were no serious injuries.
