If you have a glittering bank account, Lexus has some powerful new bling to consider. The 2018 LC 500 coupe has heads spinning because it looks like nothing else on the road.

I think the side view is best because nose and tail styling are really quite busy. Gorgeous 21-inch forged wheels are a $2,600 option. A carbon fiber roof means our review car has the $6,000 performance package, including four-wheel steering. It’s amazing how bright the tiny LED headlights are.

Inside is even more striking than outside, looking like a concept car from the auto show. Form-fitting sport seats are part of the performance package along with a suede headliner and carbon fiber door sills. A 10-speed automatic is perfectly matched to the coupe’s V8 power. Drive modes are Normal, Sport S, and Sport Plus.

It’s too bad the clumsy touchpad interface found in other Lexus cars is here. It’s too easy to overshoot the desired function. 

Row two and trunk space are pretty tight. The car’s battery lives under the trunk floor because there’s no room under the hood. Five liters of V8 power with 471 sweet-sounding horses really fill it up.

While more of a grand-touring car than corner carver, the LC 500 is quite nimble for its size and weight, and it’s fast – really fast.

So for the 2018 Lexus LC 500 coupe, I say thumbs up to glorious V8 power, distinctive styling, and gorgeous interior; thumbs down to the clumsy interface and small trunk.

I averaged about 20 miles per gallon. The as-reviewed sticker is $105,060.
