2019 Lexus ES 350 F Sport

Now in its seventh generation,. the Lexus ES 350 has always been a cushy highway cruiser without much to offer enthusiast drivers. Not any more.

The all-new ES 350, especially in F-Sport trim is much more interesting.

It's longer and wider than the outgoing model. The F-Sport package includes a special grill, badging, and rear deck spoiler.

The biggest improvement is under the hood. Horsepower is now up to 302 from the 3.5 liter V-6. A hybrid version is also available.

Inside, there are improvements over the old car, but some old frustrations remain.

Overall it's a great-looking and comfortable interior. The video display is now more than a foot-wide on cars with navigation and Apple Car Play is now standard.

Too bad the same old, quirky, and imprecise touch pad interface remains.

The automatic transmission is now an 8-speed.

Row two passengers will find more leg room in the new ES 350. They'll find more room for their stuff under the power trunk lid.

Both power and handling are better in the new car, while still being quiet adn comfortable. Overall, a balanced package.

So for the 2019 Lexus ES 350 F-Sport, I say thumbs up to better power, better handling, and more interior room. Thumbs down to the touch pad interface controller.

The pre-production car averaged about 25 miles per gallon, and it had no sticker, but should run about $44,000.
