Escape Games thriving in York City

Steve Shellenberger of York City is the co-owner of Escape Games Live in on W. Philadelphia Street in York City.

“It’s a puzzle room adventure,” said Shellenberger. “You have to find clues solve puzzles it’s just fun it challenges you mentally and it’s great team building.”

Wednesday we caught up with a group who attempted to make their way out of “The 70’s” room. Their goal, to solve the puzzles and get out under an hour.

“It’s definitely important to have good teamwork skills,” said Elijah Cross of York City.

Shellenberger monitors the group through a surveillance camera and watches them from the other side of the room. If the group gets stuck he will slide a helpful hint under the door.

“It’s fun to see the way people interact with each other and interpret the clues that we give them,” said Shellenberger.

After 53 minutes the group solved the puzzle and made it out of the room.

“This will definitely spread, this is a fun concept,” said Cross.

“It’s absolutely going to blow up, York is in desperate need of fun activities like this,” said Amber Steeley of York City. “It’s not everyday you get to do something so out of the box.”

Escape games in York City started back in March and it’s already drawing outside interest.

“We have had people from Baltimore, Reading, York, Harrisburg Lancaster and we had a group from Florida,” said Shellenberger.
