Fruits and vegetables grown locally are picked at their peak of freshness, when they are packed with nutrients that keep our bodies healthy and protect us from diseases like heart disease and cancer.
Madelyn Barrows, nutritionist at Giant Food Stores, stopped in to teach us more about the benefits of local produce.
“Just look for the signage around the produce section to identify which fruits and vegetables were sourced locally. This summer, you will find sweet corn, peppers, tomatoes, melons, and cucumbers grown right here in Central Pennsylvania,” tells Madelyn.
Madelyn also shared her favorite recipes for summer entertaining-all made with locally grown produce. To make them yourself, just visit our Good Day PA! Recipes page.
