State Representative Glen Grell (R-Cumberland) will become the Executive Director of the Public Schools Employee Retirement System (PSERS), sources confirmed for abc27.

Grell has been in the legislature since 2004 and for half of his ten years has focused on pensions. He is also a former member of the 15-member PSERS board, to which he will now report.

Grell will oversee a $50 billion retirement fund and 315 employees. It will be his job to ensure that pension checks get to more than 200,000 retirees.

The job will pay about $200,000 a year.

Grell is likely to leave his seat in the next month or so and a special election to fill the seat will be called by the Speaker of the House Mike Turzai (R-Allegheny). It’s expected in August.

Cumberland County’s Republican and Democratic parties will choose their candidates for that special election.
