Harrisburg man charged with homicide, robbery in Carlisle shooting

CARLISLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A Harrisburg man has been charged with criminal homicide and robbery in connection with a fatal shooting in Carlisle on Sunday.

Christopher J. Williams, 25, is accused of killing 35-year-old Rhyheim Hodge in a home at 278 West North Street.

Williams was stabbed during the incident and linked to the crime through the blood he left at the crime scene, according to charging documents filed Tuesday.

Police had responded to the home for a report of shots fired around 3:11 p.m. and found Hodge dead near a rear kitchen door.

A woman told officers that an unknown man came into the home, attempted to buy marijuana, and asked for a bottle of water. She said the man then took her hostage, put a gun to her head and demanded money, and shot Hodge, the criminal complaint states.

Four children were in the home at the time of the shooting, police wrote in the complaint.

Police said large amounts of blood were found in the kitchen and various shell casings in 9mm and 10mm were on the floor. At least three bullet holes were found in a dining room wall, and a black and blue kitchen knife covered with blood were found near Hodge’s body. A large bag of marijuana was also found in the dining room.

Williams went to the Harrisburg Hospital emergency room about 45 minutes after the shooting for treatment of a severe stab wound to his thigh. Police said DNA testing matched him to blood found behind the home.

Williams was also charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful restraint, and illegal possession of a firearm. He was not permitted to have a gun because of a 2009 robbery conviction.

He is in Cumberland County prison without bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 22.Get breaking news, weather and traffic on the go. Download our News App and our Weather App for your phone and tablet.
