A 67-year-old man died in a three-vehicle crash that shut down part of Interstate 81 in Franklin County for several hours Friday morning.
State police in Chambersburg said the man was passing an oversize load in the southbound lanes and lost control for an unknown reason about a mile south of the Greencastle/Waynesboro exit.
He collided with another vehicle, overturned and went airborne while sliding across the grassy median, then was struck by the third vehicle as he was launched into the northbound lanes.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.
The other drivers were treated at hospitals.
The crash at 9:15 a.m. shut down I-81 in both directions for up to three hours.
