WHTM TV abc27 will debut a new 11,000 square foot Content Center beginning on Sunday, January 27, 2019. The $2.7 million investment by parent company Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. is all about serving audiences across all platforms (TV, Desktop and Mobile) with a commitment to provide the best environment for viewer engagement.
“This significant investment and expansion demonstrate our commitment to our employees and viewers, underscoring the confidence our parent company has in the region and abc27’s future. The new Content Center and additional modernization of the existing facility will allow our team to better serve our 10 county South Central Pennsylvania population,” said Vice President and General Manager Robert Bee. “We are bringing the most innovative, dynamic and visually appealing technology to Central Pennsylvania—and we’re the first to do it.”
A state-of-the-art “Digital Now Center” will allow us to push digital content to audiences more quickly as well as provide real-time updates across all platforms including abc27.com, social media and on-air. The expanded facilities include a variety of new sets for daily news broadcasts, digital content initiatives and the daily lifestyle show “Good Day PA!”. “This Week in Pennsylvania”, a weekly political insight program focused on state government and distributed to over 45 of the state’s 67 counties will also have a new look. Considerable investment has been made to upgrade the new main studio with new lighting, studio cameras, an expanded and modernized newsroom and four digital video walls to enhance the station’s story-telling capabilities.
WHTM abc27 employees welcome the upgrades. “It’s beyond exciting for us to have this beautiful new newsroom and studio,” said weekday anchor, Alicia Richards, “We’ll now have an extraordinary facility more in line with the hard work abc27 employees perform every day for our viewers.”
Weekday anchor, Dennis Owens added, “Even though Christmas was last month, our very own abc27 Christmas is coming right now. The excitement among the staff is palpable. I firmly believe we have the best people in the business and now our set and studio will match that degree of excellence.”
The new space also includes improved technology to allow abc27 to broadcast breaking news, weather alerts, and other important public service messages to audiences faster and more efficiently. New abc27’s weather system equipment will allow the station to run its highly advanced meteorology software while continuing the tradition of delivering the most accurate local forecasts.
“Clearly, we believe we are setting the standard for this market,” said News Director CJ Hoyt. “Our community deserves the most accurate, most efficient, and most advanced news broadcasting and weather services. We are pleased that with these new cutting-edge technologies we can meet and exceed viewer expectations.”
