Attorney General Josh Shapiro appeared at the Pennsylvania Press Club on Monday and highlighted his first two years in office. He rattled off a list of accomplishments, but one issue has dwarfed the others: the clergy sex abuse scandal.
Shapiro intimated that the grand jury report released in the summer is not the end of the story. His office continues to investigate 1,400 calls that came into the special child sex abuse hotline his office established, and he said the issue has expanded well beyond Pennsylvania’s borders.
“Attorneys general are investigating and the feds are as well. I said to someone the other day, ‘John, I think we’re in the third inning of a nine-inning game.’ There’s a lot more to come,” he said.
The sex abuse hotline number is 1-888-538-8541.
