Couple charged after 5 kids report abuse

NEWVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) - A couple is charged after five children between the ages of 4 and 11 told authorities they have been beaten in their Newville home since the beginning of 2018.

The children told Children and Youth Services that their mother's boyfriend, 27-year-old David M. Flaherty, hit them with multiple instruments that caused black and blue marks.

The children reported they had trouble sitting, sleeping, and moving after the beatings, Newville police said.

Flaherty, of Carlisle, also is accused of giving the children extraordinarily hot or cold baths.

The children said their mother, 30-year-old Alexis J. White, was present for some of the beatings and during times when they were given the hot and cold baths.

Flaherty is charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of children and five counts of simple assault. White is charged with five counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Bail was set at $10,000 each.
