Cumberland County warns of scam calls

Carlisle/West Shore

People who receive a phone call about missing jury duty from someone claiming to be from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department or a Cumberland County constable, be warned: that call is a scam.

Residents have contacted the county courts after getting fraudulent calls. Those people were told there was a warrant out for their arrest for failing to appear for jury duty, according to a news release.

The Cumberland County Courts said it does not issue warrants in this manner without an initial court hearing, and the courts do not ask for money over the phone.

If you receive one of these calls, do not give out personal or bank information, social security numbers, deposit a check, or wire money to the caller.

Instead, contact your police department.
