Cumberland Valley adds 4 security positions

Carlisle/West Shore

Cumberland Valley School District is adding four new security positions.

The officers will replace hall monitor positions and require more training and certifications.

The additions came after an assessment by Carlisle security company MG Tactical Advantage. The district contracted with the company after the Parkland, Florida, school shooting.

The officers will be at the high school. The district hopes to add more officers at its other schools.

“The security officers will be outside on arrival of the students, helping to greet students,” said Michael Sokolas, the district’s director of student and public safety. “They’ll be outside when the students are dismissed. They’ll be roaming the interior of the facility, conducting preventative security checks throughout the facility.”

The district added Sokolas’ position in the fall.

Current safety measures include a single-entry point during the school day, security cameras, and a control system for visitors.
