Former diner owner gets prison for tax evasion

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - The former owner of a Carlisle diner will spend a year in prison for income tax evasion.

Atef Hussein, 48, of Hagerstown, Maryland, was sentenced Wednesday in federal court. He is the former owner and operator of the Fairground Diner.

U.S. Attorney David Freed's office said Hussein understated income and taxes due, resulting in false income tax returns for tax years 2011 through 2015 and causing a tax loss of approximately $139,293.

Hussein also was ordered to pay $139,293 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
