A Camp Hill state prison inmate took his own life on New Year’s Day, the coroner said.

Cumberland County Coroner Charley Hall announced the results of an autopsy on Thursday. He said Elid Gueits hanged himself in his cell.

The Corrections Department said an officer performing a security round noticed Gueits suspended from the top bunk by a bed sheet.

Gueits was immediately placed on the floor and security staff gave him CPR until medical staff arrived. An EMS crew then attempted to resuscitate Gueits but could not.

Gueits, 24, was serving an 11-month to four-year sentence on drug charges. He had been at the prison since September.
