Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a fatal pedestrian crash on Interstate 81 in Cumberland County.

Martese Davenport, 30, of Hempstead, New York, was struck from behind while walking along the northbound lanes near mile marker 54.7, about two miles north of the Middlesex exit. He was found dead along the roadway around 7:48 a.m. Sunday.

A truck tractor with no trailer was parked along the shoulder in the area of the crash around 2 a.m. Sunday, state police in Carlisle said.

Investigators believe there may be minor damage to the right front of the truck, likely to a mirror. The truck also may be leaking oil.

Anyone who saw the truck and has information about it or the driver should call Trooper John Boardman at 717-249-2121.

Police said Davenport was dressed in black clothing. It is unknown if the driver who struck him was aware of what they hit.
