Police seek vehicle of interest in fatal I-81 hit-run crash

Carlisle/West Shore

State police in Carlisle are looking for a truck driver they want to question about a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian crash on Interstate 81 last month.

Investigators on Thursday released photos of a truck tractor that was seen at the Flying J truck stop on Harrisburg Pike on the early morning of December 23.

The crash happened minutes later on I-81 northbound, at mile marker 54.7 in Silver Spring Township, about two miles north of the Middlesex and New Kingstown exits.

Martese Davenport, 30, of Hempstead, New York, was struck from behind, apparently while walking along the berm and with the flow of traffic.

Police have said the truck tractor was seen parked along the shoulder of I-81 in that area around 2 a.m., but the driver may not have known what was struck. They said Davenport was wearing dark clothing.

The photos from the Flying J were taken shortly before 2 a.m. as the truck left the parking lot. The driver then turned north onto Route 11, toward the I-81 ramps.

The truck may have been parked along the side of the building facing Denny’s restaurant, police said.

Anyone with information should call Tpr. John Boardman at the Carlisle station. The phone number is 717-249-2121.
