YWCA Carlisle is preparing for Week without Violence 2018. The global movement to end violence against women and girls begins Monday.

The local chapter is planning multiple events to raise awareness, including a panel discussion with a sexual assault rape crisis advocate.

YWCA Carlisle is also starting a new program for teenage girls called LEAD, which stands for lead, empower, advocate, develop.

“It’s a time for girls to not only socialize but also learn about community activism and address important topics like self -steem, portrayal of women — how that happens in the media,” said Dana Hippensteel, of YWCA Carlisle.

YWCA Carlisle’s Annual Youth Conference with Cumberland County high schools will be held next Thursday. This year’s theme is Breaking Down or Building Up.
