Carson Long Military Academy is for sale.
The 53-acre campus in New Bloomfield is listed for $3.9 million.
The military school announced last month that it is closing and will not open for the 2018-2019 academic year. Perry County Commissioner Brenda Benner would like to see the property used for educational programs.
“We did meet with the president of HACC and talked about some possibilities, but unfortunately we talked to him the day before they announced the closing of the facilities,” said Benner.
Benner would also like to see the chapel turned into a performing arts center, the gym opened to the community, and a restaurant in one of the historic buildings.
“I think there is a real potential there, and I’m hoping that someone has even bigger and better ideas than I have to bring it to fruition here in the county,” she said.
Carson Long’s board of directors will oversee the sale of the property.
