Climate change skeptic addresses House panel; Dems say waste of time

Questions are being raised at the state Capitol after a climate change denialist was invited to a Wednesday meeting of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee to present his own research.

Gregory Wrightstone is the author of ” Inconvenient Facts: The Science That Al Gore Doesn’t Want You to Know”, a book that argues rising temperatures caused by carbon dioxide emissions are helping the planet, not hurting it.

“Time and again, we find that the science and facts contradict what we are being told,” Wrightstone told the panel.

The Democratic chair of the committee, Rep. Greg Vitali, called the hearing a waste of time and questioned chairing Rep. Daryl Metcalfe’s decision to invite Wrightstone.

“It’s pretty surprising when you go to Harrisburg and you expect accomplished people to be making our laws when you still have climate deniers,” Vitali said. “I thought we were beyond this.”

Members of the Better Path Coalition attended the meeting dressed as leprechauns and unicorns. Their message is that climate change is real and time is running out.

“This is a real problem, an urgent problem, a catastrophic problem that needs to be addressed immediately,” coalition co-founder Karen Feridun said. “There’s not time for stuff like this.”
