A Salisbury Township man is charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 4-year-old son, who was killed in a feed mixer on his family’s farm on May 30th.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Alvin Beiler is also charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Prosecutors say Beiler showed gross negligence and recklessness by starting the feed mixer without knowing the whereabouts of the boy, who he had seen minutes earlier playing by the mixer’s hopper.

Beiler told police he “lost track of his son” and even though he thought where he was, still turned the mixer on, never investigating where the boy was.

Realizing the boy was inside, Beiler stopped the machine, ran to a neighbor’s home and summoned help.

Beiler told police the boy had played on and around the machine in the past.
